A cornerstone post about my fascination with railways.
Forgive the terrible pun, but railways run in my family. One of my grandfathers was a railway signalman, and my dad and at least two of my great grandfathers worked as railway engineers, building and maintaining steam engines and wagons.
Apart from being a passenger I don’t have any practical experience of the railways, but I’ve always enjoyed building them in miniature. My current project is an N gauge layout loosely based on Watlington Station, but I’ve renamed the layout ‘The Rowarth and Little Mill Branch Line’.
I’ve been working on Rowarth for several years now, and it’s finally taking shape. I’m hoping to complete it in the next 20 years or so! On this site I’ll post updates on how the layout build is going, plus my encounters with the real thing.
So why not climb on board for the journey? Meet me at the station.
