A cornerstone post about my adventures outdoors.
I love being outdoors: anywhere quiet, green and solitary is fine by me. I walk every day, whatever the weather, and a good long walk in the countryside is a great way to relax. I don’t need much company when I’m out, but my loyal and steadfast walking companion is Bruce the dog. We don’t travel extensively to walk, and our favourite places are the Yorkshire Wolds and moors, the Lake District and the Peak District of Derbyshire. To be fair, Bruce doesn’t mind where we go, as long as there are interesting sniffs to be had. I always take a camera with me and photograph whatever catches my eye — landscapes mostly, and nature.
Another way I spend my time outdoors is fishing. Sitting by a lake or river is a great head emptier. I don’t mind what fish I catch – sometimes catching nothing is just as much fun. But I must admit netting a big feisty carp or a beautiful bronze tench, sets my pulse racing.
The Out and About category on this site is where I post descriptions of where I’ve visited and photographs of anything that caught my eye. Mostly it’s about local walks, but sometimes I write about trips further afield.
So why not come and join me in the great outdoors?
